The City of Cape Town traffic officials are currently dealing with an accident along the Nelson Mandela Boulevard.

The City of Cape Town has launched an investigation into an accident involving a MyCiTi N2 Express bus on Thursday evening along Nelson Mandela Boulevard.

Three people were injured when the bus landed on top of a vehicle, crushing it.

The City’s Rob Quintas confirmed that no fatalities have been reported.

“We are grateful that no fatalities have been reported to the City and I sincerely hope and trust this remains the case. As far as we know, three people sustained minor injuries,” he added.

Quintas added that it is unclear what had caused the accident, adding that this will form part of the investigation. Nelson Mandela Blvd outbound remains closed.

The City’s traffic department said that motorists were being diverted to Melbourne road as they commence with clearing up the accidents.

“All outgoing lanes on Nelson Mandela Boulevard are closed, as the bus is across all lanes. Traffic outbound diverted onto Melbourne Road, and motorists are urged to use this route as an alternative,” said traffic spokesperson Maxine Jordaan.

The traffic department said it would take some time before the scene was completely cleared and safe to open.
